think there is no way weeds can be seen as a cover crop especially if it is grass type. If weeds and rice germinate at the same time, there is a chance that both fight for their survival and rice plants also establish well. Cover crop should be leguminous so that if there is competition from covercrop allowing standing water should make them weak so that rice plants can grow faster.
ReplyDeleteFukuoka san observed rice plants in weeds which had germinated naturally and established well with weeds. I also was surprised to see some rice plants with full of grains and wondered how that is possible, the only reason I can see is timely germination and establishment.
